Dry Ice

This week for science we got to play with dry ice. Dry ice is ice that is -78 degrees. We put the dry ice in hot water and then it sublimation a lot off-gas came out then we put it in warm water with dishwashing liquid and bubbles with smoke inside of them. We also had this Christmas tree thing that had all these conical flasks with water and food die inside and we put dry ice in everyone and smoke was flowing out.

This is what it looks like but with smoke coming out o fit

Mars Perseverance Mission

Today for hurumanu 3 which is science we have to answer questions about mars perseverance mission.

The first question I have to answer is what's rocket did the perseverance use to get into space. The rocket that they perseverance is an Atlas V-541.

The second question is described two vehicles that are being taken to Mars.
They took a Transit Habitat and a Lander.

The thread question is where does the mission plan to land on Mars and what are they looking for. They will lane in Jezero on mars.

And the last question is how will the vehicle lane without being damaged.
The answer to the last question is a parachute. There is a parachute connected to the vehicle and then rockets on the side of the vehicle and it helps it to slow down and makes it safer to land.

Gold rush knowledge

This week for hurumanu 1 wich is reading and social studies we have been looking at the gold rush history in New Zealand. We have been told to make a blog post before we read the story. The teachers want us to say what we think the gold rush is and what we think of it.

When I hear the words gold rush I think of something to do with gold and mining but I also think of rush I think of someone in a rush to go to work. But when I put the two words together I think of someone rushing gold to the city or something along that line. We were also told to write about what we thought discrimination meant, I didn't have a lot of ideas on what this meant but I think it means something like destroying something and then getting caught.

Next week I will post about the research and the correct answers to the word discrimination and gold rush and all the reading I have done for reading and social study.

Navigation in space

Today for hurumanu 3 wichs is science we had to make a blog post answering questions about navigation in space.

The first question is what is a solar system? A solar system must have a sun or a star and planets that travel around the gravity sun.  Part of this question is what is the milky way an example of. The milky way is a galaxy That we are a

The next question that we have to answer is what is a star and describe a nebula. A nebula is when a star is born, a star is born when you mix hydrogen and helium together in a circle.

And the next question is how do stars die. Stars die by running out of hydrogen and helium.

Daylight Savings

Today for period 3 we have homeroom with Mrs Hastie. Mrs Hastie has asked us to answer some questions on daylight saving in New Zealand. She has given us a document that has all the question and has asked us to make a blog post on the questions we have answered.

Here is the question that answered.

Research and answer the following questions about Daylight Saving NZ in a blog post

  1. When does Daylight Saving happen each year in New Zealand?

    1. In New Zealand, daylight saving starts on the last Sunday of September.

  2. What year did it start in NZ?

    1. Daylight saving first started in 1927.

  3. Why was Daylight Saving started?

    1. So that farmers could have more time working at night. It saved the farmer money on power.

  4. 4 I think daylight saving should continue because I like the daylight during the night. I also like it in the morning because when I walk out the door it's nice and sunny. But my favourite thing about daylight saving is everyone gets the time at night confusing so we go to bed later than usual.

  5. Do all the states in Australia have Daylight Saving? Who does and who doesn’t?

    1. In Australia, they do have daylight saving in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, Cranberry Territory and Norfolk Islands But not in  Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, Christmas Island or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

  6. Write 3 tips to help others adjust to Daylight Saving this weekend.

    1. One tip is to always check the time

    2. Set alarms in the morning to wake up on time

    3. Avoid coffee and alcohol and don't take long naps.

Hurumanu 6 health

Today for health we looked at the different types of things that you should have in our meals each day like vegetables and fruit dairy protein and grain foods. We hade to wright down what we think something healthy to eat for each meal.

This is what my healthy meal for each thing is.

Your Task: Create a meal plan for 1 day that includes all the necessary amounts for each of the 4 Food Groups

Vegetables + Fruit - at least 3 servings of vege and 2 servings of fruit every day

Grain foods - 6 servings each day (check portion sizes)

Milk/Milk products - 2 servings

Legumes/Nuts/Seeds/Fish/Seafood/Eggs/Poultry/Meat etc. - 2 servings

When you have created your meal plan, please highlight each food based on the colours provided above. This will help us clearly see where each of the food groups has fit in. Remember, you want each meal to be a balanced plate.

Bonus research: how many glasses of water should we have each day? Fit this into your meal plan.

Breakfast

2 weet-bix with strawberry yoghurt diced strawberries and milk

Lunch

Sandwich wheat bread mayonnaise cucumber lettuce tomato and  ham.

Snack

mandarin and muesli bar.

Dinner

Roast with potatoes carrot gravy peas and salad

Water

How many servings per day? 1-2 letters each day

How do you think you could fit these in besides just at mealtimes?

  • You should have water while you're eating lunch.

  • You should have water while you're eating dinner.

  • You might need to have some water while you're eating your snack.

Science

For the last 2 days, we have been looking at different ways to comminate using binary code, flag signals and morse code for science. Me and my group used binary code. Binary code is using the number 1 and 0 to comminate with with other people. So for example you would put up the number 1 and then your partner would write number one and then you put up 0 4 times and then your partner will write 0 4 times and you put up the number one and your partner will write the number 1 down and then you have the letter A.

My Art and Writing

For the last 8 weeks, we have had Hurumanu 4.Hurumanu 4 is Art and writing. For the Art part of Hurumanu 4, we have been looking at perspective drawing with a vanishing point, prospective line and a horizon line we have also been drawing people and their faces. For the writing part of Hurumanu 4, we have been planing and writing a heroes and villains story of our choice. We hade to make up the 3 main characters in our story, 1 character is your hero the second character was your villain and your last character could be a sidekick for your hero or an animal or a random person. In your story, you have four main scenes. I'm really proud of the abandoned building that I drew for the art side of Hurumanu 4.

This is my story I haven't really finished yet but I hope you enjoy it.

So this story starts with a 12-year-old boy named Max playing basketball with all his friends at a local park. Max is about 4 and a half feet tall with light brown hair and hazel eyes and a diamond earring on his left ear.

Max and all his friends are halfway through this really intense game when swish goes the basketball all the way to the other side of this giant basketball court. Max said in a really puffed out voice “I’ll get it” As the big brown basketball bounces down the court Max run’s after it with all the energy he has left. Bounce after bounce the ball end’s up going out of the basketball court and accidentally hitting this lady in the right-hand side of her back,  but what Max didn’t know was the lady the basketball hit was no ordinary lady, in fact, she is top 10 most wanted villains in the world. This lady’s name was Violet, Violet is 24 years old she’s about 5 foot 1 with black hair but slightly dark violet and violet eyes. Never would her name be Violet aye? Well, Max walks up puffed out and exhausted to Violet he says that he’s really sorry that the basketball hit her then turned around to grab the basketball then turns around one more time to say that he and all his friends are truly sorry,

Then out of nowhere BANG! All the people at the park and at the basketball court run for dear life just so they don’t end up with red ruby blood running out of their body like it’s the Olympics 100 meter races with ruby red blood filling all the cracks in the long narrow footpath. Then rushing down and along the green grass then suddenly the sound of sirens fills the air, Then before you can blink you see Max with medical attention like no one has seen before everyone trying to keep as much blood from coming out of his chest like a waterfall, Then as fast as you can think they’re in the ambulance and then at the hospital with his parents being called to the hospital to find out that there beloved son laying in a fully dreaded blood bed with his hospital monitor at a flat beat with no hope left Max is covered with his sheet dreaded in blood.

As Max’s mum and dad’s eyes filled with water they turned red as if they had a laser beming into them and a waterfall coming out of the sockets. Max’s body is removed from the room and then taken to the morgue under the ground floor. This is where all the unfortunate dead pale bodies are kept after dying in the hospital or on their way to the hospital.

About one and a half weeks after the passing of Max. They have a funeral for him. The funeral is held at 12:30 pm at Willo Graveyard.

(To Be Continued)

I hope you enjoyed reading my heroes and villains story. I will try to get the rest of it finish.

And this is the photo of my drawings that I did for the art side of Hurumanu 4.

This photo of a drawing that I drew of a setting in my story.

Speech

This week for hurumanu 2 we wrote a speech on a subject that we got to choose. I choose the subject crazy laws in the sates and wrote about 4 really dumb and stupid laws.

This is the speech I wrote about.

Crazy Laws

Hello, my name is Evelyn and I will be talking about some Crazy Laws in America. I will be talking about 4 really stupid and weird laws that I have researched and written about that I will be talking about

  • It's illegal to eat fried chicken with utensils in Georgia.

“In 1961, Gainesville, Georgia passed a measure making it illegal to eat fried chicken with anything other than your hands. It was a publicity stunt to promote the city as the “poultry capital of the world.” (Website link) I think this law is one of the craziest and stupidest laws I've ever heard because some people don't like to get their hands dirty while eating.

  • It's illegal to put up billboard signs in Hawaii.

“The first state to ban billboards was Hawaii back in the 1920s. Over 8 million tourists visit Hawaii each year, due to its ethereal beauty and land desirability. Could this be due to the fact that there aren’t any billboards obstructing its natural appeal? Possibly. The Aloha State has preserved its rooted history through initiatives started by the Outdoor Circle, which is an organization that pioneers the removal of aerial advertising. The main reason being why Hawaii has decided not to erect billboards is to maintain its gorgeousness, but there is an unintended consequence from this.” (Website link)

  • It’s illegal to sell a pickle if it does not bounce in Connecticut.

A pickle has to bounce to be considered a pickle in Connecticut. The regulation has its roots in a 1948 incident in which pickle packers Sidney Sparer and Moses Dexler were arrested for selling rotten pickles. The pickles in question did not bounce. Sparer and Dexler were fined $500--the maximum penalty--and their pickles were destroyed.

  • It’s illegal to climb a tree in  Toronto.

“No person shall climb on or over a railing, bridge or fence located along or across any street, or climb on any tree located in a street, or on any post, pole or structure installed on any street.” (Website link) I think that this is illegal because someone could get really hurt and may potentially pass away doing dangerous stuff like that.

I hope you enjoy me talking about these crazy and stupid laws that I have researched about I hope you learn something new about America and some of the dumb laws over there maybe one day you will try eating fried chicken with utensils?

And here is a video of me reading my speech.

Reading Tangata Whenua

For the last two week, I have been working on a book about New Zealand and the history behind it. The book I got is about Tangata Whenua, The name of the book is Tupaia. Tupaia is about the native people that lived here first before captain cook came to New Zealand.
For one of my activities, I had to describe in my own words what the word mana means.
Here is the work I did for this period.

Is the Milo healthy for you ?

Today for health and math we are taking an item that we might use every day and looking at all the ingredients inside of the item. The item that I chose is Milo.

What to look at.

So when you are looking at the label's at the back with all the ingredients it goes from most which are the most inside of the item that you got then it goes to the least which means it has a lest of this inside that item.
Milo (9300605003811) - Is it Vegan, Vegetarian, or Gluten-Free ...
What's in milo.
With milo, the most ingredient inside of it is barley which is 34% out of 200grams and the least amount of ingredients inside is flavour.
